Crocodile has displayed an extremely cynical and patronizing attitude, showing complete disregard to the romantic pirate lifestyle and stating that all the values that the status of Pirate King had once symbolized were now worthless to him. He valued military power above popularity, renown, and treasure. Crocodile believed that only ignorant fools declare their grandiose dreams. He refers to trust and faith in others as idiotic several times during the Alabasta arc. He claims to have done away with countless people rather than trust them and goes so far as to deride those who fight for others, making their defeats all the more harsh.
Along with his great superhuman strength and speed, Lucci is a highly intelligent and cunning individual, being able to become a master carpenter within a 5-year period merely as a form of espionage and surveillance over his "boss" Iceburg (who CP9 believed to have possession of the blueprints for the Ancient Weapon Pluton), and even when it was discovered otherwise, Lucci quickly deduced the next most likely candidate (Franky) based solely on their adolescent friendship. He and the other CP9 agents that infiltrated Water 7 deceived every single inhabitant, a clear sign of their manipulative skills.
After their ship is stolen, Luffy’s crew is adrift for over a week, leaving plenty of time to lament the loss. Then, to add insult to injury, they are tricked and caught by the Thief Brothers, which inadvertently ends up being their first lead as to who has their ship, the Going Merry! The dastardly deed was pulled off by none other than the nefarious Trump Siblings, a group of pirates that terrorize Clockwork Island. Now, the gang must travel to Clockwork Island to not only reclaim their vessel, but also to potentially find the world famous treasure -- the Diamond Clock -- as well!
